A rescue call out came shortly after 11am for a broken femur on Togwotee Pass. More details from the Togwotee Shop confirmed a U shaped leg and possible broken nose. There was a toboggon on site with the patient but because of injury concerns they were unable to move him.
The decision to fly in for an airlift was determined based on the patients injury and potential for increased damage via ground transport. The patient was directly transported to St John’s Hospital for surgery.
We received additional resources on this rescue from Togwotee Rental Shop, Forest Service and Teton County EMS.
Side Note: The injury occurred during an “attempted” backflip on his snowmobile.
